Tennis’ greatest stars are all set to descend upon Flushing Meadows for the final Grand Slam of the year and one more chance to seize glory. The men’s half of the US Open could turn into a battle between youngster Alexander Zverev and 35-year-old Roger Federer, while the women’s draw looks wide open. Excitement among fans is reaching a fever pitch, with just days until it begins, and betting will go into overdrive as this will be one of the main sporting events of 2017.
One option many fans will not have considered, however, is spread betting, which is a fantastic way of turning expert knowledge of the sport into a serious profit. Here we explain a few key ways you can use spread betting to your advantage at the US Open.
Games betting
A bookmaker will offer a prediction of the total number of games that will be played in a match and you can decide whether you think there will be more or less. For instance, Rafael Nadal is playing Jo Wilfried Tsonga and the bookmaker predicts there will be 29-31 games in this three set match. If you think Nadal will win it comfortably in straight sets and by a reasonably healthy margin you would go for under 29 games. This is referred to as selling at 29 games.
However, if you think it will be a close encounter and Tsonga can win a set, you buy on 31 games because you are predicting there will be more than 31. The further the reality deviates from the bookmaker’s prediction, the more you win. So if you sell at 29 and Nadal wins 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, there will only be 18 games and you will be 11 from the prediction. In this case your stake is multiplied by 11, so if you bet £10 you win £110. If you sell at 31 and Tsonga wins 4-6, 7-5, 7-6, 3-6, 8-6 in a five-set thriller, there will have been 58 games so you will be 27 over the projection and your stake will be multiplied by 27.
This allows you to make far greater margins than simple over and under betting at fixed odds. Federer has breezed through opening rounds at Grand Slams this year and could be a good player to sell on, while someone like John Isner frequently makes a meal of getting through long matches, so he could be a good player to buy on. You can also bet on a player’s game supremacy or Cross Courts, which multiplies Player A’s set games one by Player B’s.
Aces betting
When you visit Sporting Index tennis spread betting you will see many different betting options and one of the most popular is on aces. The bookmaker will make a prediction of how many aces there will be in a match and you either decide to buy or sell. If the match features a big server and the opponent is not a great returner, you might consider buying. If the match features a player that is blessed with a superb return, however, selling might be a good option.
Andy Murray is a very agile and dogged returner of serve, so selling on his matches might pay dividends, while matches featuring Isner, Ivo Karlovic and Milos Raonic are typically good to sell on. Venus Williams and Sabine Lasicki are the big servers in the women’s game. You can also bet on double faults and other lines.
Futures betting
Spread betting is not confined to individual matches. You can also bet on how deep into the tournament a particular player will progress. Sporting Index calls this its Champion Index betting. It gives a player 60 points for winning the tournament, 40 to the runner-up, 20 to the losing semi-finalists, 10 to quarter-finalists and five points to players eliminated in the last 16.
It will set a prediction for how many points each player will get and you simply guess more or less. The more right you are, the more you win. So if the bookmaker predicts Nadal will earn 25 points, you sell on that and he is knocked out in the early stages and earns zero points, you get your stake multiplied by 25.
This is a good chance to make a big profit by wagering on which players are overrated and which are underrated. Zverev goes into the tournament with big hype after beating Federer in the Rogers Cup final and has been made third favorite behind Federer and Nadal, but he has never been past the fourth round of a Grand Slam so he might be a good player to sell on. Maran Cilic looks underrated and could be a good player to sell on. In the women’s you might decide second favorite Karolina Pliskova is overrated and sell on her, but buy on Coco Vadeweghe, who is a talented long shot.

Man am I excited – we’re less than a week away from the U.S. Open.
Update: US Open 2017 Betting Tips now up.
I mean from a betting perspective it’s not a big deal – you’ll usually find better value in the smaller tournaments. This is one where the bookies are really on their toes. In saying that I’ve correctly predicted the last two US Open Winners.
However purely from a viewing perspective it’s just a fantastic experience.
The big question of course is if Dustin Johnson can repeat. He’s been in some incredible form over the past couple of years with some great Majors performances.
A lot of people didn’t believe he could do it last year but oh I know one person who did – me!
Here’s the betting slip from last year:
And how about the year before? That was Speiths year and here’s the betting slip from that:
I’m hoping to make it three in a row. FYI in 2014 I wasn’t providing the betting tips at that time.
Not sure I can do it again but I’ll be trying to. My free US Open 2017 Betting Tips will be up on the 13th of June. You can subscribe and get an e-mail when they’re up for free by putting your e-mail address below:
In the meantime I thought we’d have a look at the odds.
US Open 2017 Betting Odds:
- Dustin Johnson: 13/2
- Jordan Spieth: 9/1
- Rory McIlroy: 10/1
- Jason Day: 12/1
- Justin Rose: 16/1
- Hideki Matsuyana: 18/1
- Sergio Garcia: 20/1
- Jon Rahm: 20/1
- Rickie Fowler: 20/1
- Henrik Stenson: 25/1
That’s the US Open 2017 Betting odds for the Top 10 golfers. Of course no Phil Mickelson this year as he is attending his daughters graduation.
Where To Bet the US Open:
Your best bet is to sign up at sportsbooks that offer E/W betting and go with that.
Germany: The majority of my bets rely on betting to win and E/W(each-way). You can bet E/W at the following sportsbooks:
Rank: | Sportsbook: | Notes: | Promo: |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Boyle Sports | E/W Betting. Unique promos and rewards for new/existing customers. Pays to have an account here. | Various free bets. Changes Weekly. See This Weeks. |
2 | Bet365 | ||
3 | William Hill | E/W Betting. Unique Props. New bonuses/specials every week. | Various Options. |
US Open 2017 Betting Tips:
As I said above my betting tips will be up on Tuesday, June 13th for the US Open.
In the meantime I wanted to write a few notes for those looking to bet. This years event will be taking place at Erin Hills.
I haven’t bet anyone yet so these are NOT tips. Just a couple of notes I’ve been making recently:
Rickie Fowler: he had a bad run at the Majors recently but that 11th place at the Masters was solid. I’d almost consider him a dark horse however the 20/1 odds don’t make me too happy. I’d prefer 30/1 if I was going to consider him.
Brooks Koepka: I like Koepka due to his majors history, the betting odds on him, and the fact that he’s in good form. I’m watching him closely at the St Jude Classic and I’m hoping for a big finish for him here. he came out of the Masters strong but has faltered a little bit since then. If he has a good performance this weekend I’ll be betting him.
I’m not 100% sure yet but I feel good about NOT betting Spieth, Johnson and Rory. That may change as I analyze more but looking at things none of them have been convincing me.
Anyway that’s my thoughts so far. Back Tuesday to try and get 3 winners in a row. Be sure to subscribe!

Since 2014 I've been providing free golf tips on a weekly basis. Each tournament analysis, research and writing the betting tips takes over 10 hours per tournament. That doesn’t include watching each tournament and taking notes etc. It's why I do less and less non-PGA tips these days.Us Open Betting 2017 Ncaa Football
I’ve delivered a lot of big winners over the years, and all I ask is if you appreciate the work I put in and so I can continue to keep the tips free, a donation is highly recommended and much appreciated.
While I obviously make enough money from my golf bets, this sort of financial support would motivate me to write more content on here. This would include golf prop bets like first round leader, head vs head and much more plus daily fantasy golf articles. Cheers!
